‘Urinetown’ the musical is based in a dystopian society, where it’s inhabitants need to pay to use the toilet. Renowned for its self-aware sense of humour, picking holes in both itself and other musicals and full to the brim with in-jokes and references, ‘Urinetown’ is a lively, one of a kind musical. The set was designed to reflect this, transforming the Proscenium arch PMA theatre at LIPA into a 1920’s cabaret, complete with footlights, orchestra pit, tables and a giant Chandelier.
Our aim was to create a playing space as playful as our interpretation of the musical, with trapdoors, old school magical effects and good old fashioned vaudeville humour.
